We have all had the experience of overthinking our problems, but more often than not, it blocks us from actually finding good solutions. We can take simple steps to overthink less:
- Step 1: Approach your worried thoughts with an attitude of curiosity. Don’t fight them, observe them.
- Step 2: Find distractions from overthinking that are positive and active – like exercise or doing a puzzle.
- Step 3. Plan times when you actively allow yourself to overthink, but keep it brief. It can relieve some of the pressure.
- Step 4: Write thoughts down instead of letting them swirl around in your mind.
- Step 5: Talk to someone you trust to gain a new perspective.
